The Good, The Bad, The Beautiful, and the Ugly: The Texts of the Bible

Day|Time: Tuesdays, 7pm
Place: Huey’s Hot Dog, 1507 W. Balmoral Ave.
Leader: Sam Mercado & Brian Dodds
Contact Info.: Sam: samuelm.1025@gmail.com; Brian: brian.jd.dodds@gmail.com
DiscipLeship Stops: Bible Study

mailto:samuelm.1025@gmail.comLet’s see what happens when we approach the Bible with these two thoughts: (1) you get to question everything, but (2) you don’t get to throw anything out.  You are invited to participate in an ongoing study of the mystical teachings of the Bible.  Participation in the group requires nothing more than a willingness to spend some time with the Bible’s more puzzling stories, parables, and sayings-from Genesis to the Book of Revelation-reading them as a question, not an answer; cultivating openness in place of certainty, acceptance in place of denial.  This group is open to everybody, believer or doubter, convicted or skeptic.

About Sam: Sam Mercado was born in Puerto Rico raised in Chicago. I have spent most of my life in church and know the importance that small groups have in my faith journey.  Small Groups is the heartbeat of my walk in Christ. The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is a the perfect small group for me because I now have more questions about my faith journey than ever …  We can question everything in this group.

About Brian: I was born a believer and now find myself a doubter, which, at UVC, is (often) exactly the point. Originally from a small town, I moved up to the city, with my (now-) wife Joanna, a few years ago. I love to read the Bible and hash-out its meaning with thoughtful people – be they believers, doubters, or something altogether weirder.
