Room at the Table.v03

“…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”
- Matthew 25.35

You don’t have to look very hard in the Scriptures to find that God cares deeply about offering enough to eat and drink. At the beginning of Genesis, God said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” At the end of Revelation in a vision of a new and eternal city, God declares that, “to the thirsty I will give water as a gift.” And, of course, there are numerous examples of Jesus gathering with friends and strangers around a table to share a meal.

As Christians, we are told to pray and ask for daily bread. For most of us, that’s something we take for granted. Not so for countless others in our city and around the world. In 2012, then, our Service|Justice focus for Urban Village Church will be to do what we can to combat hunger. That will happen in different ways. We’ll volunteer with organizations that provide meals throughout the city. We’ll work with organizations that advocate for systemic change. We’ll return to Haiti because we are called to care for our neighbors around the world.

We hope you choose to get involved!
